Pharaoh Ramesses II<\/span> and his queen Nefertari<\/span> initiated the establishment of this temple in the 13th century BCE.  The carving of the rock-cut statues of royals, along with the construction of the temples, took around twenty years. The temples were rediscovered at the beginning of the 19th century and were relocated in the 1960s to avoid damage by floods. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
