The Don Quixote Route is simply a perfect excuse to start exploring Spain and its culture in depth. Get ready to explore, this is not only a literary route but also a journey through some of the most magical landscapes in Spain. We will do the route by car (with the exception of one train ride), it goes through 13 towns and cities of the interior and lasts 8 days. Castile-La Mancha should be on your list of must-do road trips in Spain. On this trip, aside from the cultural part, we will be visiting wineries and cheese shops. We will be tasting delicious typical Spanish food and wines or beer.

About me! Hello, I am Pedro, a citizen of the world (fully bilingual in English/Spanish). Travel is my way of living. I travel for about 9 months of the year. I love to explore places, food, drinks, and customs, so I can take my friends to these magical places.

About the accommodation: Along the journey through the most significant places in the life and times of Miguel de Cervantes. The accommodation will be mainly hostels, but since the trip is set up to do it before the high season we might find Airbnb or something of the kind. we might share a room or an apartment, it will depend on availability. Let me know in the Q&A section if you have any questions about the trip or if you would like to have a video call to share more details about the trip and to make sure this is a great fit for your expectations!

Reiseverlauf
1

Madrid

Tag 1-3
Get together and a walk around Madrid. We will visit a few places there enjoy the day. Have some wine and food. Visita la Iglesia y Convento de las Trinitarias Descalzas, lugar emblemático asociado a cervantes.
2

Alcalá de Henares - Ciudad Patrimonio de la Humanidad

Tag 3
We will take the Cervante train and actors dressed in period costumes will introduce themselves, direct them to the train and accompany them throughout the visit. We will come back to Madrid.
3

Esquivias

Tag 3-4
Esquivias – Toledo Esquivias (Province of Toledo), where we can make a brief stop. It is worth it because it was here where Cervantes' wife was born, where they were married in 1584, and where they lived for a time in what is known as the “Casa de Cervantes”. Today it is a museum that you can visit. And from there we continue to the city of Toledo.
4

Consuegra

Tag 4-5
Consuegra (Toledo) – Alcázar de San Juan (Ciudad Real). As you arrive, the horizon appears to surprise its famous windmills. Or are they giants to fight against, as Don Quixote thought in his madness? You'll have to get closer to check it out. We will get lunch with typical dishes from the region including Manchego Cheese. And after lunch, we will visit Alcázar de San Juan.
5

Campo de Criptana

Tag 5-6
Campo de Criptana (Ciudad Real) – El Toboso (Toledo) Campo de Criptana, also "land of the Giants", because its famous windmills await you there, which apparently were the ones that really inspired Cervantes for the adventures of Don Quixote. After lunch, we will go and visit Dulcinea at her home town El Toboso.
6

Argamasilla de Alba

Tag 6-7
Argamasilla de Alba (Ciudad Real) – Ossa de Montiel (Albacete) – Villanueva de los Infantes (Ciudad Real) Here is the Cueva de Medrano, where Cervantes was a prisoner and according to legend, he began to write the adventures of the Ingenious Hidalgo. Can you imagine the feeling of being, perhaps, in the emblematic "Place of La Mancha" whose name the narrator of Don Quixote did not want to remember? There are many who say, however, that this place is Villanueva de los Infantes. Ossa de Montiel, because two passages of special importance in the adventures of Don Quixote are located in its surroundings: the magical cave of Montesinos (where he descended through time) and the ruins of Rochafrida Castle.
7

Ciudad Real

Tag 7-8
Ciudad Real – Almagro (Ciudad Real) The trip is coming to an end. In the morning get to know Ciudad Real and some of its monuments such as the Puerta de Toledo or the Cathedral of Santa María del Prado. In the afternoon we will head to Almagro which is one of the most charming towns in Spain. Only its Plaza Mayor is a true marvel. In this same square, we recommend you visit the Corral de Comedias from the 17th century.
